Belgian waffles are sold hot from patisserie windows, ubiquitous griddles in shopping centres and trolleys at special events. There’s even a booth in Brussels Airport. They are served with a sprinkling of icing sugar or, more creatively, with a range of fruit, syrup, ice cream or chocolate toppings.

REGIONAL SPECIALITIES

Areas or towns of Belgium associate themselves with gastronomic regional specialities, local produce or traditional local tastes. Some like waterzooï are now relatively widespread, but others like Poperinge’s hop shoots, remain very localised and seasonal.
